MENCAP
Mencap is the UK's leading learning disability charity. Mencap's leisure programme is made up of over 1000 clubs, projects and Gateway Award groups accross the UK.

   
Some groups are known as Gateway clubs, and they help people with a learning disability take part in leisure, social and creative activities in the community. They provide opportunities for personal development.
     
  In 2005 Mencap took over the English Sports Association For people With Learning Disabilities to create MENCAP Sport.

Mencap Sport are now responsible for running Mencap's National football team and as well as their annual 5-a-side football tournament.

National Squad Trials.
Trials for the 11-a-side squad take place each year at Warwick University (Usually in February).

Those who are selected take part in a weekend training camp before flying out with the 15 strong squad to Switzerland, where they take part in a European Football championship
.
   


To be eligible to take part, players must;

  • be a member of a Mencap/Gateway club
  • have a learning disability
  • be over 16 years of age
