MENCAP

Mencap formed its national football team over 30 year ago following its invitation to take part in a European championships held in Switzerland.

National football trials are held each year to select players for the squad. Those selected attend a training weekend about a month before the squad flies out to Geneva for the Championships.

Each year a different ability level is chosen to ensure that players of all abilities get the oportunity to play for their country.

Following the closure of Mencap Sport earlier this year, the management team were asked to continue to run the football team on Mencap’s behalf. This ensured that Mencap members were able to continue playing football for their country.

To ensure transparancy and control, the management team (and the trip), now operates under the umbrella of Harrogate Mencap and its affilliation to the royal Society (MENCAP).

GENEVA 2012
The National Mencap football trials will be held at Warwick University on Sunday, 29 January 2012.

Nominations are invited for players who meet the following criteria:

ELIGIBILIY CRITERIA 2012

  • Players must be a member of Mencap or belong to a Mencap affiliated group
  • Players must have a learning disability.
  • Players must be male and over 18 years of age.
  • Players must receive at least 20 weeks football training per year and play regular competitive football.
  • Players should participate at Intermediate/Championship ability level.
