The
British Paralympic Association (BPA), is responsible for selecting,
preparing, entering, funding and managing Britain’ s teams
at the Paralympic Games and Paralympic Winter Games. These Games
take place once every four years and run parallel to the Olympic
Games.
Football
is open to athletes with;
CP
football at the games is played at 7-a-side and includes classes
5, 6, 7 and 8. All classes comprise of ambulant athletes; class
5 being the least physically able, progressing through to class
8 who are minimally affected. Teams must include at least one
athlete from either class 5 or 6.
The
rules are modified from Olympic football and include a smaller
field of play, no off side rule and of course the reduced number
of players. Matches are also played in two, 30 minute halves.
Visually
Impaired footballers play a 5-a-side version of the game and must
be categorised as B2 and B3.
